Harris, who married Hefner in 2012 at the Playboy Mansion on New Year’s Eve and was with the mogul until his death at 91 in 2017, explained, “Do I regret marrying Hugh Hefner? Of course I do.” “I regret being in my mid-20s and thinking that marrying one of the most famous men in the world meant I had finally made it, that I finally mattered or had value,” she continued, and added that she regretted suppressing herself, staying silent, and abandoning parts of who she was while living in that environment.
Harris said people expected her to stay silent and maintain the image of “the grateful young wife” and “the lucky girl.” She added that she was done with that narrative and that acknowledging her regrets was one of the most honest things she had done. Harris clarified that she does not view her past solely through regret, and she is grateful for the woman she became.
However, Lovitz, who shared a close friendship with Hefner and attended his wedding to Harris, quickly weighed in by saying, “Do you regret the house he bought for you to live in, after his death? And keeping the money, after you sold it? And all the times your mother was at the mansion? And do you regret all he did for you? And do you regret leaving him and then coming back to marry him?”
While some criticized her, some fans also showed support for Harris. One of them wrote, “You are very brave to come to this decision. Some might have concluded but not shared it publicly. You are changing the trajectory of a young woman’s life.” Another commented, “He was a predator. Our brains are not fully developed and are still developing into our 30s.
