JD Vance’s Secret Service Detail Reportedly Frustrated by Family Travel Requests

JD Vance’s Secret Service detail is reportedly frustrated with his family’s unpredictable travel plans. Sources claim that the last-minute requests have strained staffing and raised questions about the use of government resources.

A report alleges Vance’s last-minute family travel requests have strained Secret Service resources

MS NOW reported on July 15 that Secret Service personnel described a “building morale problem” among agents assigned to the vice president and his family. They said repeated “off the record” movements force agents to revise security plans and sometimes cancel days off.

One reported incident involved Vance’s request to take Marine Two with his young son from Washington to Joint Base Andrews for a golf lesson. Severe weather canceled the flight, according to two people familiar with the plans.

Current and former supervisors told MS NOW they were unaware of any similar requests from previous vice presidents. The outlet reported that operating the helicopter costs between $16,000 and $24,600 per hour, based on 2022 Defense Department estimates.

Sources also claimed the family requested last-minute helicopter trips while searching for a home in Middleburg, Virginia. “The detail is tired of them not giving notice on things and making everything an OTR,” one person told MS NOW.

Reporter Carol Leonnig said some agents created coins and stickers reading “Bobcat OTR Survivors Club,” a reference to Vance’s Secret Service code name. She told MS NOW that the items reflected frustration with trips that changed after agents had already prepared for them. The family is also preparing to welcome a fourth child later this month. JD and Usha Vance already share three children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.

Vance’s office pushed back on the criticism. A spokesperson told MS NOW that the family remains grateful to the agents protecting them and praised the agency for supporting a growing vice presidential family.

Still, the report has renewed questions about travel planning, agent morale, and the use of government resources. Still, the claims have renewed questions about planning, morale, and the use of government resources.
