Rosie O’Donnell shared her experience of meeting with Chelsea Belle O’Donnell in prison. The comedian revealed it was the first conversation she had with her daughter that lasted for more than 25 minutes, calling the visit emotional.

O’Donnell’s daughter, Chelsea, was sentenced to six years in prison in October 2025 after violating probation in a drug-related arrest. The American talk show host paid a visit to her daughter behind bars. Soon after her visit, she opened up about her conversation exclusively with Page Six.
She said, “This was the first conversation I’ve had with her in 10 years that lasted more than 25 minutes. The first time that I saw her in a consistent way was the four hours in prison.” Rosie added that Chelsea broke down when the visit was cut short due to a tornado warning, according to E News.
“And that’s the first time I’ve seen, kind of, an empathetic emotion from her. So, you know, she’s growing up, and I hope that her future is brighter than this past decade has been,” she added.
Following the visit, she also revealed that Chelsea had been sober for almost two years. She said, “Almost two years now, and that’s a very big part, you know. She was born addicted, and when I was adopting. I thought, ‘Well, love can cure everything,’ but I don’t know that that’s true.”
Chelsea was reportedly arrested for methamphetamine possession, child neglect, felony bail jumping, and resisting an officer. This marked the first time an American talk show host shared about her visit to her daughter. Rosie had previously spoken about her family’s struggles earlier; she was hoping her daughter would be better after her progress in sobriety. Her latest comments suggest that she is hopeful for her relationship with her daughter.
