Armie Hammer has compared himself to Jesus Christ, saying he is “already on the cross.” The remarks come after the 39-year-old experienced a dramatic downfall following allegations of rape, physical abuse, and sharing cannibalistic fantasies in 2021.
Armie Hammer said his experience with public condemnation reminded him of how Jesus was treated
As per RadarOnline, the actor reflected on the period when the allegations surfaced, revealing that his father, Michael Armand Hammer, who died at the age of 67 in 2022 following a battle with cancer, urged him to fight back against his accusers. However, Hammer said he chose not to do so.
The Social Network actor recalled how his father was furious and said, “‘I’m going to call this person, I’m going to do this, we have to make sure they know this.’ He really wanted to go on the offensive.” But, “I said, ‘Look, dude, I’m already on the cross. The nails are in my hands. I’m not getting off this cross, no matter what we do. And the more I struggle, the longer I’m going to be up here.'”
In January 2021, multiple women accused The Social Network actor of misconduct, sharing alleged messages referencing BDSM and cannibalistic fantasies. His former girlfriend, Courtney Vucekovich, alleged that “their romance was like dating a wannabe Hannibal Lecter.” After the allegations, he was dropped by his agency and publicist and had to step out of several projects, including Shotgun Wedding opposite Jennifer Lopez, reports People.
In March 2021, a woman identified as Effie publicly accused him of rape and other acts of violence during their on-and-off four-year relationship, while he was married to Elizabeth Chambers. He was also accused by Effie Angelova, who first made allegations in January, of physically and sexually assaulting her during a four-hour incident in 2017.
In a statement to People, Andrew Brettler, lawyer for Hammer, denied the allegations and said the actor’s relationship with Effie was “completely consensual.” In April 2023, he was under investigation over sexual assault allegations. Despite the probe, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office said there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against him.
Hammer, who is the great-grandson of oil tycoon Armand Hammer, recently returned to the acting world with Uwe Boll’s controversial Citizen Vigilante. The film was released digitally in North America on June 19. However, a source claimed that the actor’s reaction to the finished film was one of distress. The source went on to claim that the actor said, as quoted by TMZ, “That was not the movie I thought we made,’ and he freaked the f*** out. Armie is reportedly now searching for the right project that could help revive his career.
