Longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan has drawn heavy criticism for defending Josh Hokit’s controversial remark about Michelle Obama.
The internet lashed back viciously, calling out Rogan for being afraid of a MAGA reaction for the tasteless comment.
Joe Rogan said he disagrees with Josh Hokit’s comment about Michelle Obama, but argued his controversial stunt attracted attention
In a recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Rogan claimed that Hokit’s “Michelle Obama is a man,” comment was “smart” and designed to get attention.
According to OK! Magazine, Rogan said that the comment was meant to shake up the audience and was part of Hokit’s personality development strategy. “What he’s trying to do is maximize the amount of attention that he can get for a very short window of [his] career,” Rogan explained.
Rogan continued, this time directly appreciating the comment. He said, “It is very divisive, don’t get me wrong, but that’s by design,” adding, “[You’ve] got to get attention. I don’t agree with it, I wouldn’t do it, it’s not my thing, I don’t like it, right? But I get it, and it’s smart.”
The controversy stems from the June 14 UFC event held on the White House South Lawn, where Hokit grabbed the microphone after his victory and declared, “Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?” Neither Michelle Obama nor former President Barack Obama has publicly responded to the remark.
Rogan’s remarks quickly drew criticism from social media users.
One person wrote, “I think the more people who listen to Joe Rogan, the more people will be bewildered that so many other people think of him as a thought leader,” adding, “He was an actor with limited skills as an actor, and once he lost his looks and his hair, the well dried up and bitterness took root.”
A second one commented, “Joe Rogan is spineless for finding any reason to defend such a pathetic, low-brow comment. This notion of being a fence sitter and not taking a firm stand is so cowardly. Rogan is clearly afraid of MAGA backlash.”
Rogan’s remarks have continued to fuel debate online, with supporters and critics divided over his defense of Hokit’s controversial comment.
