Armie Hammer is said to be unhappy with his role in Uwe Boll’s controversial Citizen Vigilante. The 39-year-old actor, whose rising career was derailed amid the #MeToo era, was reportedly left in tears and shocked after viewing the final cut of the low-budget film.
Armie Hammer says Citizen Vigilante turned out far more hateful than he expected
After his public downfall following abuse and rape allegations, Armie Hammer, the great-grandson of oil magnate Armand Hammer, said he was eager to return to acting. “I would have done a f**king cat food commercial. I just wanted to work again,” he said, as reported by People.
However, a source claimed that the actor’s reaction to the finished film was one of shock and distress. “The first time he saw it, he was in tears,” the source said. “And not tears of joy. He called me and said, ‘Fuck. This is hateful, disgusting,” states Puck.
The source went on to claim that Armie said, as quoted by TMZ, “That was not the movie I thought we made,’ and he freaked the f*** out. Armie is reportedly now searching for the right project that could help revive his career. However, the source suggested that the actor might not be entirely opposed to returning for a Citizen Vigilante sequel. “It would have to be life-changing money,” the source said, adding, “Everyone has a breaking point.”
According to People, in January 2021, multiple women accused The Social Network actor of misconduct, sharing alleged messages referencing BDSM and cannibalistic fantasies. His former girlfriend, Courtney Vucekovich, alleged that “their romance was like dating a wannabe Hannibal Lecter.” After the allegations, he was dropped by his agency and publicist and had to step out of several projects, including Shotgun Wedding opposite Jennifer Lopez.
In March 2021, a woman named Effie formally accused him of rape and other acts of violence during their on-and-off four-year relationship, a period during which he was married to Elizabeth Chambers. He was also accused by Effie Angelova, who first made allegations in January, of physically and sexually assaulting her during a four-hour incident in 2017.
As per another report by People, in April 2023, he was under investigation over sexual assault allegations. Despite the probe, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office said there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against him.
