Marjorie Taylor Greene accused Senator Mitch McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, of being a “possible Communist spy.” The accusation comes after the 84-year-old Kentucky Republican was found unconscious at his Washington, D.C., home and hospitalized on June 14.

When asked about McConnell’s weeks-long hospitalization and the lack of information available about his condition, MTG told TMZ in a video, “I think it’s extremely serious, and I’d like to say, shame on the Republican party for staying silent while such a powerful senator is basically lying in the hospital like a vegetable.”
She then claimed that McConnell’s wife traveled to China and met with the country’s vice president shortly after his medical emergency, adding that she believed Chao could be a “possible communist spy.”
When the reporter pointed out that she was calling his wife a “possible Chinese communist spy,” MTG responded, “100 percent,” before questioning why a woman would leave her husband’s side while he was “dead or dying” in the hospital.
Punchbowl News reported, “Just before 9 a.m. on June 14, the dispatcher directed an ALS (Advanced Life Support) ambulance to the address of the former Senate GOP leader’s home. Audio of the EMS dispatch was circulating online earlier this week and was posted by journalist Desiree Townsend.”
Later on the same day, McConnell spokesperson David Popp said the senator was hospitalized and “receiving excellent care.” On June 22, Popp said that McConnell was “working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery.” No further updates have been provided since then.
According to ABC News 4, McConnell, whose current term is expected to conclude in January 2027, has faced several health concerns in recent years. These include a March 2023 fall resulting in a concussion and broken ribs. He also froze mid-sentence during a later news conference, and reports said he had suffered two more falls earlier that year.
