Donald Trump’s close working relationship with aide Natalie Harp is back in the spotlight after new comments from her estranged brother. Preston Harp claims his sister’s devotion to the president is rooted in a deeply personal search for a father figure following years of distance from their late father.
Natalie has become one of the most recognizable faces in Trump’s inner circle, often seen by his side carrying printed news articles and Truth Social drafts. Her loyalty has been widely documented in recent books about the White House, but Preston says the dynamic goes far beyond politics.

Speaking to The Daily Beast, Preston alleged that Natalie’s bond with Trump stems from her complicated relationship with their father, Robert Harp, who died by suicide in 2020. “The way my sister interacted with and treated my dad throughout the years, it was like she wished she had a different dad,” he claimed.
He also dismissed speculation surrounding the nature of Natalie’s relationship with Trump, instead describing it as ideological and emotional. “While much of the media has focused on questioning whether her relationship is something scandalous, that is not where my mind goes personally,” Preston told The Daily Beast. “To me this is 100 percent an infatuation based on an unfortunate shared ideology of U.S. exceptionalism.”
Preston added, “I think that she does see Trump as a kind of father figure because he embodies the doctrine of American exceptionalism,” while arguing that their own father “did not embody American exceptionalism in the least.”
Natalie’s role inside Trump’s orbit has drawn increasing attention in recent months. According to “Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump” by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, she frequently supplied the president with printed positive news coverage and allegedly left handwritten notes for him, including one that reportedly read, “You are all that matters to me.”
The White House has defended Natalie amid growing scrutiny. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told The Independent, “Natalie Harp is one of the most loyal and hardest-working aides on President Trump’s team.”
Preston, who says he became estranged from his family after disagreements over how to discuss their father’s death, previously described his sister’s relationship with Trump as “very unhealthy.” Trump has not publicly responded to Preston’s latest remarks.
