What Meghan Markle Said at Princess Diana’s Grave During Private Visit

As fans prepare to mark what would have been Princess Diana’s 65th birthday, attention has returned to Meghan Markle’s private prayer at Diana’s graveside at Althorp Park, the Spencer family estate in Northamptonshire. The Duchess of Sussex is expected to visit the UK in July for the first time in four years.

Meghan Markle’s graveside prayer to Princess Diana was revealed by Prince Harry in Spare

Although Prince Harry has made several trips to the UK since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan’s upcoming visit will be her first since the late Queen’s funeral in 2022, reports The Mirror. Harry and Meghan, who have been staying in the United States since 2020, last visited Diana’s grave on the 25th anniversary of her passing in 2022.

In Spare, which was published worldwide in January 2023, Harry reflected on rowing out to the island in a boat. He wrote, as per RadarOnline, “No visit to this place was ever easy, but this was a twenty-fifth anniversary. And Meg’s first time. At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum.”

He continued, “We hesitated, hugging, and then I went first. I placed flowers on the grave. Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my head, told her I missed her, asked her for guidance and clarity. Feeling that Meg might also want a moment, I went around the hedge and scanned the pond. When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone.”

Harry also recounted what Meghan told him after they left the graveside, writing, “I asked, as we walked back to the boat, what she’d prayed for. Clarity, she said. And guidance.”

According to RadarOnline, the visit was deeply personal for the couple. Meghan wanted a quiet moment to reflect, while Harry, who was just 12 when Diana died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997, returned to one of the most significant places in his life.

The Sussex family is expected to attend the Invictus Games event in Birmingham. The temporary closure of Althorp House on July 10 and 11, coinciding with the family’s planned UK visit, has fueled speculation that they could privately visit Princess Diana’s grave and pay their respects.
