The Grammy winner discusses her latest album, navigating heartbreak and embracing a new chapter in life

In her Dazed cover interview, Olivia Rodrigo said the album explores her first “adult relationship,” but she did not turn the conversation into a name-dropping session. Instead, the singer focused on how love changed her writing and how music became the place where complicated feelings could live. Rodrigo admitted she still felt close to the project before its release. “I’m excited for it to not be ‘mine’ any more,” she said, explaining that she was ready for listeners to make their own meanings.

The album, released June 12, marks her third studio project after SOUR and GUTS. It moves between love, insecurity and heartbreak without losing the sharp detail fans expect. Rodrigo said the songs came from a happier place while still leaving room for sadness. That has made Olivia Rodrigo album conversations active.

When asked whether heartbreak gets easier with age, Rodrigo said she now feels more self-assured than she did during the SOUR era. She added, “A breakup can be an opportunity to redirect your life,” while describing the self-knowledge that can come from a relationship ending.

Rodrigo has been candid about dating. She said patience is one of the biggest lessons she has learned about love. She also described her closest friendships as the most important relationships in her life.

British Vogue also captured the grounded side of her fame. Despite her success, Rodrigo said, “I don’t think of myself as a star, at all.” For fans, that is why this era is landing. Her songs still sound like someone figuring life out in real time.
