Armie Hammer’s controversial thriller, Citizen Vigilante, has secured a global release after Quiver Distribution acquired worldwide rights to the film, excluding four territories. The deal came after Elon Musk promoted the film on X.

SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, took to his X account to post about the film. He quoted a post recommending the movie with the caption, “Citizen Vigilante 2 will be even better.” Soon after the post, interest in the film increased, helping it secure a worldwide release.
Movie director Uwe Boll shared with Variety that Elon Musk contacted the team before posting on X. He said, “He contacted my U.S. podcast, but not me directly, and they told me, like, We got a message from Elon Musk. I thought that it must be a parody account. I mean, you’re not really thinking that he would contact you, but then it turned out it was true.”
“But I didn’t really chat with him or talk to him. It was very quick, you know. I think this guy, I don’t know what he’s doing every day, but I think his attention goes fast, you know. So, I felt also if we don’t in a way agree to do it, he would’ve just moved on,” he added.
The director further said that providing film for free will affect earning potential, but that it helps distributors with publicity and exposure.
Citizen Vigilante did not get permission for German-speaking territories, the UK, and Taiwan. However, it’s available on iTunes, Google Play, Fandango, and Amazon in North America. Boll estimated the film now has revenue of $600,000, but has a long way to go as the movie’s budget is estimated at around $2 million.
With worldwide distribution, Armie Hammer’s Citizen Vigilante is all set to reach a broader audience despite its controversial journey.
