Prince George, the eldest child of Prince William and Kate Middleton, is preparing to follow in his father’s footsteps. The 12-year-old future monarch will begin attending Eton College this fall, continuing a family tradition at the prestigious boarding school.

Kensington Palace confirmed on June 16 that Prince George, who will celebrate his 13th birthday on July 22, is set to enroll at the prestigious all-boys boarding school near Windsor this September. The school is the same institution that his father, the Prince of Wales, and his uncle, Prince Harry, attended when they were 13 years old, the BBC reported.
Offering further insight, royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith told People, “Eton was a much-needed haven for William. It will give George a rigorous education that he will need for his role.”
George visited Eton with his parents in 2023, before turning 10, signaling the prestigious school as a likely choice for the future King. The Prince and Princess of Wales gave their three children, George, Charlotte, and Louis, a relatively normal childhood, keeping them largely out of the public eye after moving their family to Windsor.
They have been very careful not to pressure any of them to appear on the public stage too often. It’s been a gentle introduction to royal life, which has let Prince George build his confidence,” explained Queen Elizabeth’s former press secretary, Ailsa Anderson. Adding, “Both William and Catherine carried out a lot of research to make the right decision.”
A source close to the family also revealed that George has always aspired to follow his father’s path. As the grandson of King Charles III and great-grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September 2022 at the age of 96, George holds an important place in the Royal Family. He is widely respected and regarded as the future monarch by palace staff. Speaking to RadarOnline, a palace source said, “The passing of Queen Elizabeth marked a profound turning point in George’s understanding of who he is and what lies ahead.”
