Criminal Minds star Paget Brewster has apologized after facing backlash for attacking TV journalist Shaelyn Scott’s coverage of the show. The 57-year-old actress said, “I’m sorry to those who follow me that you saw me behave like that.”
Here’s why Criminal Minds star Paget Brewster apologized after criticizing a journalist
Brewster, who portrays Emily Prentiss in the Paramount+ series, apologized after facing backlash for criticizing a ScreenRant writer over an article titled Paramount+’s Criminal Minds Format Change Finally Backfires. The writer argued that recent seasons of Criminal Minds feel too short, noting that the CBS-era seasons had at least 20 episodes each, while the Paramount+ seasons have had just 10.
Brewster quickly called out the author in a now-deleted X post, writing, as quoted by EW, “Hello, critic Shealynn Scott. You’re young. You don’t know that bad pics and bad reviews can lead to 350 people losing their jobs. Sell vintage. Work at a shelter. Do something better than what you do now. Because right now you suck.”
Following the post, the actress received widespread online criticism for targeting a journalist over coverage she disagreed with. One of the netizens commented, “Publicly telling a young woman that she sucks because she wrote an article [criticizing] the 10-episode structure of Criminal Minds is kinda gross. No, Paget Brewster, right now you suck.” Journalist Christopher Marc called the actress’s comments “highly unprofessional.”
On June 21, Brewster apologized to Scott, stating, “I was mean to Shealyn Scott last night, and I profoundly regret it. Shame on me for insulting a human being for doing their job. I’m very sorry, Shealyn. And I’m sorry to those who follow me that you saw me behave like that. Turns out, last night, I sucked.”
According to Yahoo Entertainment, Criminal Minds aired for 15 seasons on CBS before ending in 2020. It was later revived in 2022 on Paramount+ as Criminal Minds: Evolution, with shorter streaming seasons. Season 19 of Criminal Minds: Evolution, consisting of 10 episodes, premiered on May 28, with the finale set for July 23.
