Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo’s split surprised fans who had long viewed the couple as one of country music’s most unfiltered love stories. Now, Bunnie is sharing new details about what really led to the divorce and why the breakup wasn’t as mutual as some may have assumed.
The pair spent years documenting their relationship publicly, from their fertility struggles to their family life. But according to Bunnie, communication issues had been building behind the scenes long before divorce papers were filed.
Jelly Roll divorce reason explained after Bunny Xo comments
During the June 18 episode of her “Dumb Blonde” podcast, Bunnie Xo opened up about the end of her marriage to Jelly Roll and revealed that a Mother’s Day argument became the turning point.
“On Mother’s Day, we had a little bit of an argument,” Bunnie explained. “I was so fed up and so tired that I just looked at him and I said, ‘Well, then file the f–king divorce papers.’”
According to Bunnie, the comment carried more weight because she rarely makes threats she doesn’t mean. After the argument, she packed a bag and left their home, and the couple stopped speaking for days.
“During that, he was so mad and we were so emotional that he ended up doing exactly what I told him to do and filing the divorce papers,” she said. “Was I blindsided? And was this divorce mutual? No, it was not mutual.”
Bunnie admitted she initially hoped the couple would work through their problems in therapy. “He’s my best friend,” she said. “I felt like we deserved a chance to go to therapy and figure s–t out.”
Despite the heartbreak, she now says the former couple is on good terms and focused on their future. In fact, Bunnie revealed they still plan to become parents together.
“You guys are going to be shocked to hear this, but we’re still having a baby,” she shared. “We have been the most unconventional couple that you guys have ever encountered.” She also stressed that there was no cheating or dramatic betrayal behind the breakup. “Nobody cheated on the other person,” Bunnie explained. “It’s literally just we served our purpose for each other.”
While their marriage may be ending, it sounds like Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo are determined to remain family in their own unconventional way.
