President Donald Trump has raised new questions about the Iran peace deal after suggesting the agreement is not fully settled. He warned that the U.S. could take further action if Tehran fails to follow the terms.
The comment comes just two days before the scheduled formal signing of a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Geneva, designed to halt U.S.- Iran wartime hostilities for 60 days to allow for broader nuclear and regional security negotiations.
Trump implies the peace deal with Iran is not final and continued bombing will resume if they don’t “behave”
The president made the claim while speaking at the G7 summit in France, saying that the MoU between the conflicting nations can be overturned if Iran doesn’t operate according to the terms of the deal.
According to The Sun, Trump said: “It’s a memorandum of understanding. And if I don’t like it, we’ll go back to shooting at them, dropping bombs on their head.” He also added, “If I don’t like it, if they don’t behave, we’ll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head, OK?”
The president also noted that once in operation, the deal will enhance market conditions and bring down oil prices. “I think oil prices might get lower than where they were before the war,” he said.
Trump took special issue with leaked reports highlighting the creation of a massive $300 billion regional reconstruction and investment fund linked to the 60-day ceasefire. The president refuted this claim, saying that the US is “not putting up even ten cents.”
According to leaked details, the reported 14-point deal could see Iran receive $300 billion in funding while the U.S. lifts sanctions if nuclear talks succeed. The agreement would also reportedly allow Tehran to resume oil exports and reopen key trade routes.
Moreover, the G7 group welcomed the US-Iran breakthrough while echoing concerns about its success unless Iran ends the stockpiling of nuclear weapons.
DO YOU THINK THAT THE DEAL WILL END THE WAR?
