Jesy Nelson has broken her silence about her breakup with fiancé Zion Foster. The 34-year-old former Little Mix singer said her relationship with Zion came to an end after their twin daughters were diagnosed with a rare genetic illness.
Jesy Nelson gets real about why her relationship with Zion Foster really ended…
The news of their breakup comes after the couple revealed that their twin girls, Ocean and Story, had been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 in January 2026.
On May 15, 2025, Nelson and Zion Foster welcomed their twin daughters. Nelson later shared in a video on January 4 that she was told when leaving the neonatal intensive care unit not to compare them to other babies, as they arrived at 31 weeks and “won’t reach the same milestones,” reports People. She described, “After the most grueling three to four months, and endless appointments, the girls have now been diagnosed with a severe muscular disease called SMA type 1.”
She further explained that they were told their daughters would likely not be able to walk or regain neck strength and might be disabled, with doctors advising treatment and hope for the best.
Now, in a new episode of Jesy Nelson’s Prime Video series Jesy Nelson: Life Changing captures the moment she learns from doctors that her twins have SMA. She reflects on the news, saying, as stated by The Mirror, “I know I sound really negative now, but it is hard to accept that this is going to be their life now. It just feels like it is getting worse and worse. It is so hard. I really thought my heartache was over. I can’t believe this is happening. I feel so heartbroken.” Zion further adds, “I am not equipped to deal with this; I am out of my depth, emotionally, physically, and mentally. At the moment, I am just surviving.”
Nelson described the situation as a “very traumatic” experience for both of them, explaining that she felt it was not surprising they had split. She said, “I think it’s quite inevitable for things like this to happen as a couple. Like, I don’t think it’s like a shock that we’ve broken up, because you’ll either be a team or it can tear you apart.” Adding, “But you know, we still get on. There’s no, there’s no bad feeling. My main priority is them, so like, I just want to be the best mum for them.”
According to Metro UK, the couple started dating in 2022 and had an on-and-off relationship. Following a short break, they confirmed their engagement in September 2025 and shared their relationship publicly, with Foster openly supporting Nelson during her difficult pregnancy.
