Gavin Newsom Takes Aim at Donald Trump Over After Unnecessary Kaitlan Collins Comment: ‘Disgusting’

California Governor Gavin Newsom has viciously criticized President Donald Trump for his behaviour towards journalist Kaitlan Collins.

Trump earlier dismissed Collins’s sharp questioning, calling her “a corrupt reporter” who “never smiles” and described the young reporter as a “young, beautiful woman” with “hatred in her eyes”.

Gavin Newsom condemns another one of Donald Trump’s sexist attacks on female journalists

Responding to the president’s inappropriate comments, the Governor’s Press Office posted: “A sexual predator responding to a female journalist by telling her to smile. Absolutely disgusting.”

Trump was seen answering questions about the “anti-weaponization fund” when he turned his attention to the reporter. Collins herself has earned a reputation for asking sharp questions on topics including the Epstein files and his White House ballroom project.

There is speculation over the real motivation behind the $1.776 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund” that the Justice Department created in May 2026 as part of a settlement in Donald Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS over the leak of his tax returns.

Collins has been at the center of debates and controversies involving American presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump. There have been serious tensions between Collins and Trump since 2018, when she was temporarily removed from a White House event after asking challenging questions. Trump has repeatedly called her “nasty,” “corrupt,” and criticized her for not smiling.

Trump has had continuous clashes with women journalists throughout his two terms. He has repeatedly attacked reporters like Megyn Kelly by mocking her menstruation. Trump alluded to Kelly, saying, “blood coming out of her wherever,” a comment designed to unsettle and stem her questioning.

Trump has also targeted journalists Mika Brzezinski, Katy Tur, April Ryan, and Lesley Stahl, often criticizing their appearance, tone, or “nasty” questioning style. Critics have frequently accused him of sexist behavior toward women in the press.
