Kate Middleton offered a rare glimpse into her family’s experience during her cancer treatment while meeting patients at a Manchester cancer center. The Princess of Wales reflected on the emotional toll her cancer diagnosis took on her loved ones as she celebrated a patient’s last day of treatment.
Cancer journeys often focus on the person receiving care, but Kate’s latest comments highlighted the ripple effects felt by family members standing beside them. During a visit to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, the royal spoke candidly about the challenges her own family faced while supporting her through recovery.
Kate Middleton shares how her family dealt with her cancer diagnosis while celebrating the end of a patient’s treatment
The Princess of Wales visited The Christie NHS Foundation Trust on June 4 to spotlight the importance of holistic cancer care. During the engagement, she met Claire Lorente, a 30-year-old breast cancer patient marking the end of her treatment journey.
According to video footage shared by Hello! on Instagram, Kate warmly congratulated Lorente before reflecting on her own experience. “Well done, you!” she told the patient before turning her attention to Lorente’s family members.
“I know it’s just as hard for families and loved ones,” Kate reportedly said. “I know how hard it was for the children and my parents. You go through it with them.”
The moment carried particular significance, given Kate’s own health battle. In March 2024, the Princess of Wales revealed she was undergoing treatment following abdominal surgery. She later announced she had completed chemotherapy in September 2024 and shared in January 2025 that she was in remission.
Kate and Prince William have three children together: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Throughout her treatment, the couple reportedly prioritized open communication with their children rather than shielding them from the situation.
According to PEOPLE, during an interview in Brazil for the 2025 Earthshot Prize Awards, Prince William reflected on the decision. He explained that he and Kate chose to be transparent about her illness, even if it sometimes felt like they were sharing more than parents typically would.
