He argued that the ongoing crisis around Andrew has escalated more public anger than past royal scandals, alleging that Andrew pressured the late Queen Elizabeth in her final years. Moreover, he accused the Royal Family of enabling him.

The Sunday Times reported Andrew Lownie’s remarks on ex-Prince Andrew’s dynamic with late Queen Elizabeth, King Charles, and the wider Royal Family. He claimed that the situation now is more serious than ever, calling the abdication of Edward VIII a “three-day wonder” in terms of public engagement at the time.
His sharpest claims addressed the late Queen and Andrew’s influence over her near the end of her life. Lownie claimed, “By the end of her life, what people don’t realise, is that she was completely gaga. He [Andrew] would go up there and he would bully her into doing things.” Additionally, the author suggested, “So for the last few years of her life Charles actually was running the show, rather than the Queen.”
Lownie also claimed officials raised concerns about Andrew through palace channels and got nowhere. He argued, “She, I’m afraid, abetted this. The whole family abetted this — they knew about it,” adding that people in royal circles had discussed the allegations since 2011.
Furthermore, the biographer described what he believes happens privately when the Palace faces pressure. In that, he claimed, “On one hand, they’re saying publicly ‘Of course we’ll help any inquiry’, but I know they are putting pressure on police protection officers to not go beyond their obligations on confidentiality.”
These claims are just another round of damaging headlines for the Royal Family, not just about ex-Prince Andrew, but about who, as per Lownie, allegedly helped him throughout.
