Lily Allen Gets ‘F***ing Insane’ DMs From Women About Cheating Husbands

Lily Allen and David Harbour announced the end of their marriage last year, and now Allen tells ELLE how women have confessed shocking details about open relationships and husbands who cheat after the release of her album. Allen didn’t expect her new album to turn strangers into open books in her inbox. But since releasing “West End Girl,” strangers have reportedly confided in her.

Lily Allen gets ‘f***ing insane messages about cheating husbands after album release

After releasing “West End Girl” in October, Lilly Allen and David Harbour’s marriage became a talking point in the media, and an interview with ELLE reveals just how much unknown women have shared about their open relationships and infidelity in Allen’s inbox.

Allen spoke about what life looks like after the album’s breakout success, and how its themes around relationships and heartbreak have hit a nerve. The record racked up huge streaming numbers and set up a sold-out tour. Allen admitted that the attention has brought plenty of love along with some pretty dark confessions.

When ELLE asked if people approached her with stories about open relationships gone wrong, Allen said, “Yeah. It is f****** insane,” adding, “In my Instagram DMs, I get loads of women telling me really graphic stuff.” Allen admitted, “It makes me feel so s***.”

Besides the explicit details, it’s the feeling of being handed someone else’s pain, over and over, with no way to resolve it that gets to her. Allen said she wishes she could reply to everyone and help them through what they are dealing with, but she can’t — instead, she said the best she can do is make music that people connect with, and that helps them feel less alone.

The response has also underlined what made “West End Girl” feel so personal. Lilly Allen told ELLE that she wrote the album during a period of rage, but now she has a new sense of control over her career and her life.
