Anthony Joshua remembers his brothers after tragic car crash
Anthony Joshua was involved in a major car crash in Nigeria on December 29, 2025. While he sustained non-life-threatening injuries, two of his closest friends, personal trainer Latif Ayodele and strength coach Sina Ghami, tragically died in the incident.
On January 29, 2026, Joshua released a heartfelt video on his YouTube channel and other social media platforms. This was his first public appearance since the accident. He paid tribute to both Ayodele and Ghami, calling them “brothers.”
He began the video by thanking everyone who sent wishes and condolences to him and his friends’ families over the past few weeks. The WBA heavyweight champion admitted that despite their best plans to travel safely, the accident was an “unforeseen circumstance that was out of control.” The 36-year-old went on to say that not only did their families lose two great men, but also two people that they dearly cared about, adding that they were “major players” in their lives.
Joshua acknowledged that no matter what he says, some people would inevitably “micro-analyze” and “pass judgment” on his words. Instead, he said all that matters to him is how he feels. He added, “I know what my duty is. You know, they’re my brothers. They’re my friends first and foremost. Then we became business partners.”
He also spoke about his own eventual death, saying, “One day my time will come, and I’m not scared either at all. It’s actually comforting knowing I got two brothers on the other side. I’ve lost people before, but I don’t think I’ve lost people like that. My left and my right.” Joshua concluded, expressing his intention to help their family “achieve their goals.” He added, “It ain’t about legacy. It’s just about doing what is right. So, I’m going to do what is right by them and their family.”
