Brendan Rodgers Angers Arsenal Fans by Joking That Ramsay’s “Shirt Was Offside”

Brendan Rodgers has successfully annoyed just about every Arsenal fan by cracking a joke regarding Aaron Ramsey’s disallowed goal in the club’s match with Liverpool, saying that Ramsey’s “shirt was offside” and therefore it was a good call made by the referee in not counting the goal, which would have put Arsenal 1-0 up against their rivals.

Speaking after the match, the Liverpool manager said: “His shirt looks offside. Great decision by the linesman.”

However, Arsene Wenger was in no mood for laughing, saying: “It was a regular goal. I can’t see why it was cancelled. It was clear. Liverpool can’t complain on that front after the last week.

“I could see, live, that he could not be offside because he started behind. From the timing. I thought maybe the angle on television would be different, but it was not.”

Inevitably Arsenal fans were none too pleased, either. Twitter user @Alex_is_Sanchez tweeted: “fucking midget Welsh beg prick.” Unfortunately Rodgers is Northern Irish, so this insult doesn’t work on a number of levels. “No idea why he’s got to be such a dick about it,” wrote @mozartface, clearly preferring his football managers to all mimic the stoic, joyless professionalism of Arsenal’s coach.  “I’m pretty sure it’s all down to the where the feet are, not how baggy the shirt may be,” added @goonerdan13, seemingly questioning his own knowledge of the offside rule as a result of Rodgers’ comments.

However, regardless of how much Rodgers’ comments have riled Gunners across the UK, the scoreline remained the same and both Liverpool and Arsenal only managed to earn a point from their first Premier League clash this season. With Arsenal having failed to score in 5 of their last games, they’ll be hoping that they can break this spell when they meet Newcastle on Saturday.
