Ben Cousins Arrested After Police Chase

Disgraced former AFL star Ben Cousins has been arrested in Perth overnight after a short police chase ensued when Cousins failed to submit to a breath test.

Cousins, 36, was noticed by police to be “driving erratically” about 10:30pm in the Perth suburb of Bicton, not far from his home. A chase ensued when Cousins failed to stop for a breath test when asked. The chase ended in nearby Mosman Park.

Cousins was charged with reckless driving, failing to provide a breath test, and failing to stop. He was granted bail and will appear in Fremantle Magistrates Court on April 8.

Cousins has had a long and prominent battle with addiction, and was banned for a year from playing in the AFL in 2007 for ‘bringing the game into disrepute’.

Brownlow Medallist and six-time All Australian, Cousins captained the West Coast Eagles from 2002 until 2006, when he was forced to resign after a similar incident in which he fled his car during a random breath test. He played in the Eagles’ premiership team later that year.
