Microsoft Introduces Xbox Exclusive Minecraft ‘The Simpsons’ DLC Pack

Back in September, Microsoft paid $2 billion to acquire Minecraft‘s development studio, Mojang. Most of the post-acquisition rumors have been aimed at a possible sequel to the game, but it appears that there’s a lot more to it than that.

Microsoft has announced that in late February a The Simpsons content pack will become available for Minecraft on Xbox One and Xbox 360. It will add 24 new characters to the game, including Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie for an affordable price of $1.99.

This pack is the first Minecraft post-launch content to be console exclusive, and is the result of Microsoft’s acquisition of the developer. Although the skins don’t have any gameplay implications, they have been one of the game’s most requested additions, largely due to the popularity of The Simpsons.

Minecraft is not only one of the best-selling video games of all-time (the PC version alone has 18 million copies sold), but is currently one of the most popular games in the world topping at over one million concurrent players at any given time. Microsoft’s acquisition was one with enormous implications.

Microsoft’s announcement says to “stay tuned for more information on THE SIMPSONS downloadable content pack on other platforms”, so in all likelihood this content is only timed exclusive. How long it’ll last is unknown.
