Here’s What Aussies Googled Most In 2014

Google‘s uber-powerful Trends engine has been put to work, gathering data on what countries around the world have been Googling in the last year. Not surprisingly, some of Australia’s results are rather interesting – some are even hilarious – but the information collected by the tech giant has done a pretty good job of mapping out Australia’s 2014.

According to Google’s data, Australians were all about the FIFA World Cup, celebrities, Flappy Bird, Tinder, Neknominate, twerking, Ebola and pancake recipes this year, with both lighthearted cultural artifacts such as the Doge meme and heavy news topics such as MH370 garnering large amounts of hits.

Somehow, “Where is Perth?” is the third most popular location search by Australian Google users this year, with “Where is Uluru?” at number nine. Aussie sportspeople and musicians were amongst our most-Googled locals this year, while it’s also clear that Aussies would really love to know how to draw.

Australia’s top searches aren’t dissimilar to Google’s global search statistics, which have also just been released.
