Microsoft Wants You to Replace Your iPad and Laptop with the Surface Pro 3

Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Pro 3, a tablet that the company hopes will replace both your iPad AND your laptop.

The 12-inch device, which is the biggest, highest-res Surface yet, boasts an Intel Core i7 processor despite behind just 9.1mm thin, making it the most slender device to ever feature the processor.

The Surface Pro 3 also features a high-quality, 2160 x 1440 screen, and a kickstand situated on its back that allows it to sit at a 150 degree angle, essentially propping it up like a laptop.

Improvements have been made to the Type Cover keyboard, too, with the touch pad that came under much scrutiny with the Surface Pro 2 now being overhauled.

Microsoft also made a big deal about the included N-Trig powered pen, which the company insists is more than just a stylus and, rather than simply allowing users to write, it makes for “experiences” with the new tablet. Those attending the event were shown the functionality of the pen with a crossword app.

Microsoft certainly has lofty expectations for the Surface Pro 3, but if its debut presentation is anything to go by then it seems to fit the bill of the all-singing, all-dancing tablet it’s purported as being. The tablet will retail at a starting price of $799 with the Core i3 processor, but the CPU options will go all the way up to the Core i7. Storage for the new tablet will range from 64GB to 512GB.
