Donald Trump Jr. was met with a barrage of boos and heckles during a visit to a law school. This came in the aftermath of Republicans suffering a midterm drubbing. Students at Emory University School of Law in Atlanta made their displeasure clear when Donald Trump’s eldest son showed up on campus on Wednesday.
Why protesters confronted Donald Trump Jr. at his business partner’s ceremony
Donald Trump Jr. had reportedly traveled to Atlanta to celebrate his business partner, Omeed Malik. Malik’s name was being added to a building at his alma mater during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, according to TMZ. Students reportedly had no advance notice that Trump Jr. would appear.
As he moved through one of the buildings, a heckler shouted, “The country has rebuked you guys! The country has rebuked you.” Boos and jeers followed, with one protester declaring, “We have the House and the Senate!” Others took up a chant of “Shame on you!” A Secret Service agent appeared to gesture for quiet, without success.
Malik is visible in the footage raising his middle finger at the crowd. He serves as co-founder and president of 1789 Capital, the venture capital firm where Trump Jr. holds a partner role. The firm’s rapid expansion since his arrival—after his father’s 2024 presidential victory—has attracted close attention. Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee have launched a probe alleging “insider political influence and thoroughgoing corruption,” claims the company has rejected.
Moreover, the episode followed a dispiriting midterm for the GOP. President Trump’s eldest son’s last-minute campaigning in Ohio and New York produced no victories. Republican Sen. Jon Husted was ousted, and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy was turned away by voters. In Swanton, Ohio, on Monday, he misspoke by claiming Democratic candidates “want to make Ohio a state.” In New York, his backing of House candidate Kailee Buller failed to dislodge Democratic Rep. John Mannion.
