Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Norman Reedus lead audiences into a disturbing world of psychological horror in the Pendulum trailer. The new footage offers a glimpse of the unsettling events surrounding a couple’s spiritual retreat.
The official synopsis reads, “After a shared tragedy, Patrick and Abigail seek healing at a secluded new-age retreat in New Mexico. But as Abigail falls deeper under the spell of the group’s charismatic leader, Patrick’s fear for his wife spirals into something far more sinister. Is he losing her to a cult, or losing his grip on reality? Trapped between his own unraveling mind and a truth he can’t yet see, Patrick must untangle the truth before it costs him everything.”

What happens in the Pendulum trailer?
The trailer opens with an eerie scene in which Patrick walks upstairs toward Abigail, who is seated in a rocking chair in what appears to be their deceased newborn’s bedroom. The scene then cuts to the couple embracing as a voice asks, “What if you could heal your wife? Wouldn’t you be willing to try anything?”
The couple later visit a secluded retreat, where they join a group of people in what appears to be a cult-like gathering. The trailer’s psychological horror elements become more apparent as the group performs rituals involving Abigail as a voice says, “My dear friends, look at the world around you. Interconnected with the same life force. Remember this eternal truth. There is no such thing as death. The circle has no end.”
Pendulum is directed and written by Mark Heyman. Gordon-Levitt stars as Patrick, Phoebe Dynevor plays Abigail, and Norman Reedus’ character has not been disclosed. The cast also includes Anna Deavere Smith, Jena Malone, and Jacki Weaver.
Heyman also serves as a producer alongside Darren Aronofsky, Jacob Jaffke, Élan Klein Jaffke, Will Greenfield, and Dave Caplan.
Pendulum will hit theaters on January 1, 2027.
