Walton Goggins’ Christmas Carol BTS Takes a Wild Turn After a Muppet Encounter

The holiday season is bringing a beloved Christmas classic back into the spotlight, featuring Walton Goggins alongside some beloved puppet characters. Goggins is playing Ebenezer Scrooge in Walmart’s new holiday campaign, “A Who Knew Carol,” inspired by the 1992 film The Muppet Christmas Carol.

The commercial features Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Rizzo the Rat, and Pepé the King Prawn. In a recently shared behind-the-scenes video on Walmart’s Instagram, the banter took a wild turn. As the veteran actor turns to his dressing room, he finds Rizzo chilling in a bowl of jellybeans. Goggins screams and rushes right back, shouting, “Rat.”

The behind-the-scenes footage provides an inside look at the production, showcasing the physical sets, costumes, and unexpected encounters with Muppets. The campaign blends nostalgia and humor to highlight Walmart’s holiday offerings within the context of a familiar Christmas story.

Additionally, Stephanie Beatriz joins the cast as Scrooge’s cheerful niece. The first commercial recreates the opening musical number from the film while playfully teasing the concept of Walmart operating in Victorian London.

The holiday ad reimagines a Christmas classic with a Muppet twist

The commercial opens with Gonzo and Rizzo narrating the story. Rizzo questions how Walmart could have existed during the Victorian era. At the same time, Pepé dismisses concerns about characters who did not appear in the original film, saying the production is “giving people what they want.” Goggins eventually appears as Scrooge, delivering the familiar “Bah, humbug!” line. Statler and Waldorf also return as the Marley brothers, bringing their trademark heckling to the campaign.

Directed by Randall Einhorn, the commercial features detailed physical sets and costumes that pay homage to the original film. The campaign will be ongoing, with additional videos and social media content released throughout the holiday season. It primarily showcases Walmart’s gift offerings, Black Friday savings, and Express Delivery services.

Goggins continues his partnership with Walmart, having previously played the Grinch in the retailer’s 2025 Black Friday campaign. This time, he portrays a miser whose attitude toward the holidays transforms as he discovers what Walmart has to offer.
