Friends surprised Drake with a roast during his 40th birthday celebration in Houston, giving him part of the birthday treatment he had publicly requested.
The rapper’s festivities featured Jeff Ross, widely known as the “Roastmaster General,” and Ross confirmed the surprise roast by sharing a photo from the event.
Jeff Ross joins Drake’s surprise 40th birthday roast in Houston
Ross posted a photo of himself with Drake from the Houston celebration early on October 28.
“Drake enjoying his surprise birthday roast in Houston tonight,” Ross wrote alongside the image.
Drake quickly shared the same photo on his own Instagram and referred to Ross as “the fucking general,” appearing to embrace the comedian’s involvement in the night.
As per Complex, the roast carried an extra layer of irony because Drake had already made his birthday wishes clear weeks earlier.
After seeing footage of Jim Carrey roasting Ross for his 61st birthday in September, Drake said having Carrey roast him was “all I want for my birthday.”
Carrey’s appearance had included jokes aimed directly at Ross, including one about him being such an “ugly baby” that his mother supposedly had to sign an NDA.
That performance clearly caught Drake’s attention and apparently inspired his own interest in becoming the subject of a celebrity roast.
While the Houston party delivered a surprise roast with Ross involved, the supplied source did not confirm that Carrey participated in Drake’s birthday event.
Drake still hadn’t gotten the exact Jim Carrey roast he wanted, even though his broader wish to be roasted came true.
The Drake birthday roast became another chapter in his extended 40th birthday celebration, which had already included multiple events and social media moments.
Ross’ participation also added some authority to the setup, given his long-standing association with celebrity roasts.
For now, Drake had not confirmed whether Jim Carrey joined the roast or whether Jeff Ross handled the birthday roasting himself.
