Jessica Biel & Justin Timberlake Have a Surprising Rule for Their Son’s Acting Career

Jessica Biel has opened up about her son’s acting debut. The actress revealed the only reason she and her husband, Justin Timberlake, agreed to let their kid appear on screen.

During an appearance on Josh Smith’s Great Chat Show podcast, the actress discussed sharing the screen with her 11-year-old son, Silas, in her upcoming action-comedy film Matchbox.

Biel explained that she and Timberlake agreed to let him appear in the movie largely because “it was not a big speaking part.” The couple does not want their kid to be swept up by stardom at such a young age.

“Because the other thing I was talking to him, Silas, about is, there are kids who work really hard, and they go to acting class, and they’re in theater class, and they’re doing all the work,” Biel said.

“You can’t just take a part from that person just because you’re my son,” she continued. “Like, that’s not cool. We’re not doing that. So this is a special opportunity because it’s really teeny tiny.”

Matchbox: The Movie is an action comedy starring John Cena and Jessica Biel. Biel and Timberlake’s son, Silas, makes a brief cameo at the end of the movie but has no speaking lines.

During the interview, Biel recalled that Silas frequently talks “about wanting to be an actor.” When the cameo offer came about, she was initially hesitant to let him do it. However, the actress eventually agreed to it.

“And of course with your kids, you don’t want to squash their dreams, even though I kind of want to squash this,” Biel added.

Directed by Sam Hargrave, Matchbox is based on Mattel’s classic toy brand. The ensemble cast also features Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, Teyonah Parris, Corey Stoll, and Bill Camp.
