What happens in the Terrell & T.O. trailer?

The trailer highlights the highs and lows of Owens’ football career. A third-round pick in the 1996 NFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Terrell Owens became one of the NFL’s most accomplished wide receivers. His playing style and elaborate celebrations also helped make him one of the most recognizable personalities.

However, his career involved more than impressive performances. Owens’ locker room disagreements, contentious media relationships, and attention-grabbing celebrations often placed him at the center of public debate. The documentary explores the tension between his personal expression and the expectations of playing within a team. It moves beyond football to examine Owens’ family relationships and personal struggles. Present-day interviews capture Owens reflecting on his past and considering a new personal path forward.

The interview lineup includes former San Francisco 49ers teammates Steve Young and Jerry Rice, former quarterbacks Jeff Garcia and Tony Romo. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and former Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid also appear. Former Eagles players Isaiah “Ike” Reese and Freddie Mitchell, along with journalists Jemele Hill and Skip Bayless, offer additional perspectives on Owens’ public image and career.

Prime Video Sports and Skydance Sports present the documentary, while NFL Films produces it in partnership with House of Nonfiction. Alexandria Stapleton directs and produces the project.
