Prince Harry Wants Peace With Charles & William, but Experts See a Problem

Prince Harry has openly expressed his desire to reconcile with King Charles and Prince William. However, royal commentators believe his public discussion of private family matters could make reconciliation more difficult. In a recent GQ interview, Harry said repairing those relationships remained important to him.

The Duke of Sussex’s latest interview raises questions about discretion

Speaking to GQ, Prince Harry reflected on the family conflict and his hopes for reconciliation.

“Some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out. With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile — that’s the key point,” he said.

Fox News reported that Harry also acknowledged how difficult it can be to move beyond past conflicts.

“Scars stick around forever,” he explained.

The Duke of Sussex added that people should consider “letting go of the past.” He said there was already “enough drama in the world and enough drama in people’s lives to continue with issues with family.”

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, however, argued that Harry’s public comments could work against his stated goal.

“The peace offering is already undermined as it is public,” Fitzwilliams said. “That continues to be his big mistake. He cannot be trusted. [The Sussexes] had already launched brutal attacks on the royal family [with their tell-alls]. Family disputes are bitter. But numerous interventions from ‘friends’ and interviews like Harry’s in GQ make this highly unlikely.”

Harry has previously defended his decision to speak publicly about the family rift.

“I find it fascinating because everybody else is allowed to tell their version of my story, but God forbid I should be able to tell the other side of it,” he told GQ.

Royal broadcaster Helena Chard offered a similarly critical assessment. She argued that the couple’s public disclosures could further damage trust within the royal family.

Chard also suggested that Prince William may be dissatisfied with Harry’s approach and remains protective of private family conversations.

“Vindication on Megxit and absolution without apology do not equate to reconciliation,” Chard added.
