A knife-wielding suspect brought filming on Miami Vice ‘85 to a halt in Brooklyn. Here’s what went down on the set of Michael B. Jordan’s upcoming reboot.
Real Knife scare interrupts filming of Miami Vice ’85
A man threatened a crew member with a butcher knife on the Brooklyn set of Miami Vice ‘85, Deadline reported. The NYPD arrested 23-year-old Alex Perez of Brooklyn at around 11:15 p.m. on Friday night. He faces charges of menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.
Police responded to a call near the intersection of Avenue N and McDonald Avenue. A production team member reported that Perez pulled the knife following a verbal dispute. The crew member told officers the act left him fearing for his safety.
Officers took Perez into custody and recovered the weapon at the scene. No injuries occurred during the incident.
The incident took place as production ramps up on the highly anticipated reboot. Filming began this month across locations in New Jersey and New York City. Star Michael B. Jordan has already been spotted shooting scenes in character as Ricardo Tubbs.
Universal announced the reboot of the 1980s NBC series last year. Director Joseph Kosinski leads the project with a script by Dan Gilroy and Eric Warren Singer. Jordan joined the cast as Tubbs, while Austin Butler signed on to play Sonny Crockett.
The film boasts a stacked ensemble alongside its two leads. Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, and Danny Ramirez round out the younger cast. Veterans John Leguizamo, Walton Goggins, and André Holland also appear in key roles. Andrew Schulz, Michael Irby, and Haley Lu Richardson complete the announced lineup. Production continues in the New York area despite Friday’s disruption.
