Nearly two decades later, Stephen King’s psychological horror movie, released in 2007, is reportedly in development. The project remains in its early stages.
1408 sequel rumored to be in works
According to movie scooper Daniel Richtman, the sequel to 1408 is in early development. Original stars John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson reportedly may return. Director Mikael Håfström is also said to be involved.
However, no official plot details have been revealed yet. The original 1408 movie was released back in 2007. It followed Mike Enslin, a writer investigating supposedly haunted locations. His investigation eventually leads him to a mysterious hotel room. Despite warnings, he decides to enter room 1408.
Olin warned Enslin about the room’s terrifying supernatural history. However, Enslin ignored the warnings and entered anyway. Inside, Enslin experiences horrifying events that challenge his sanity.
The room traps him in a terrifying psychological nightmare. The movie became one of Stephen King’s most memorable adaptations. John Cusack played Mike Enslin in the original movie. Samuel L. Jackson portrayed Gerald Olin, the hotel manager.
Now, fans could see these characters return after two decades. Horror movies have already grabbed attention throughout 2026. Several releases earned strong reviews from critics and fans. Resident Evil, Obsession, Backrooms, Send Help, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and Hokum, and more have earned high critic ratings and huge box office numbers.
With King already making waves this year in the horror industry through his Amazon Prime Video series Carrie, his underrated horror movie 1408 is now reportedly in the works for a sequel.
Fans may soon revisit the Dolphin Hotel, as the original cast could return, and it will be interesting to see how the sequel continues the story after nearly two decades. However, the plot and release date remain unconfirmed.
