Michael Keaton is bringing together an experienced ensemble for his next directorial project, a Western thriller that pairs familiar Hollywood faces with a known Baby Reindeer star. The production has added three actors, including an Emmy-nominated star known for his intense dramatic work.
Richard Gadd joins the Western starring Michael Keaton & Morgan Freeman
According to Variety, Richard Gadd, Bill Camp and Ray McKinnon have joined Rode to Ruin, a Western thriller that Keaton is directing and starring in alongside Morgan Freeman and Laura Linney. The film is already shooting in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with Angel Studios handling worldwide distribution rights. The company plans to release it in theaters in 2027.
Gadd is heading into outlaw country, where greed and revenge ride side by side. The Baby Reindeer star will play Clive McKinney, a magnetic yet menacing gang leader whose crew scours the frontier for whispers of hidden riches.
In addition, Gadd’s McKinney also wants payback against the man he blames for wrecking his family. The part marks a fresh turn for Gadd, giving the acclaimed writer and performer a shot at bringing his talents to the rugged world of Westerns.
The movie’s central premise sees a retired U.S. marshal who still hasn’t let his wife’s murder go cold. His relentless hunt eventually puts him on a collision course with an old outlaw whose fading memory may hold the key to the case.
Producer Lori McCreary praised the additions, saying Gadd, Camp and McKinnon are “the kind of actors who make every scene better simply by being in it.” She is also excited to have the opportunity to see them work alongside Keaton, Freeman and Linney. Chris Candy, Travis Hammer, Thom Rivera and Derek Hinkey have also joined the cast.
Behind the scenes, Revelations Entertainment and George and Leona Productions are joining forces on the project, with McCreary, Keaton, Kelly Mendelsohn, Gary Lucchesi and Richard Gray leading the producing team. R. Dean McCreary penned the screenplay, while Steve Sarowitz, Carter Boehm, Skip Herman, and others serve as executive producers.
