New Ali G Movie’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Much Lower Than Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat Films

Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest comedy has received a weaker early critical response than several of his best-known films. Ali G: Who Iz I? currently has a lower Rotten Tomatoes score than both Borat movies and Brüno.

The new movie currently holds a 50% Tomatometer score from 18 critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It is important to note that the rating may change as more reviews arrive. Cohen stars as Ali G in the comedy, which marks his feature directorial debut and opens in theaters on October 23, 2026.

How Ali G: Who Iz I compares with Sacha Baron Cohen’s earlier comedy hits

Sacha Baron Cohen’s earlier films have earned stronger critics’ scores on Rotten Tomatoes. The original mockumentary black comedy film Borat holds a 90% Tomatometer score from 219 reviews. Its 2020 sequel, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, has an 85% score based on 306 reviews.

His 2009 project Brüno also ranks above the new Ali G movie, with a 68% score from 225 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The film follows Cohen as a flamboyant Austrian fashion reporter who travels to America to pursue fame. Like Borat, it uses outrageous encounters to satirize social behavior and celebrity culture.

Ali G: Who Iz I? follows Ali G as he returns to the spotlight after 20 years away. He discovers that his longtime girlfriend, Julie, is eight months pregnant and heads to America to rebuild his reputation. However, he faces new obstacles as he tries to reclaim his former glory. Morgana Robinson plays Julie, Ali G’s partner. Cohen introduced Ali G on Channel 4’s The 11 O’Clock Show in 1998 before starring in Da Ali G Show. He later played the character in the 2002 film Ali G Indahouse.

The new movie was filmed secretly and uses the prank-based comedy style associated with Sacha Baron Cohen’s work.
