Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos once had an unexpected brush with Jay-Z. However, their three children apparently spent years believing the story was too good to be true. The couple recently recalled how their music video cameo eventually helped them earn some credibility with their children. Their youngest son, Joaquin, only believed their story after meeting the rapper in person.

During a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa recalled how their children once made fun of them in front of friends. “We’re not cool,” she said of how Michael, Lola, and Joaquin viewed their parents, according to OK! Magazine.
Consuelos then shared a surprising story from their past.
“We never dropped it on them that we were in a Jay-Z video,” he said. The couple appeared in Jay-Z’s 2003 “Change Clothes” music video, which also featured Pharrell Williams and several other famous faces.
However, even that revelation failed to convince Ripa and Consuelos’ children.
Years later, Consuelos attended a Knicks game with Joaquin. He recalled that Joaquin seemed embarrassed to walk beside him and tried to keep his distance. Then Jay-Z spotted Consuelos.
According to Consuelos, the rapper turned around and greeted him with a hug and a handshake. He also met Joaquin. Suddenly, his father’s old story seemed much more believable.
Ripa said Joaquin burst into her room after returning home. “Did you know Dad knows Jay-Z?!” he asked.
Ripa reminded him that his parents had already told him about the music video. Joaquin admitted, “I thought you were lying.”
The couple’s children have never hesitated to tease their famous parents. Ripa and Consuelos also joked about leaving their kids off a family Christmas card after growing tired of waiting for them to approve a photo.
Still, Ripa and Consuelos’ connection to Jay-Z apparently accomplished something their years of television fame could not. It finally made Mom and Dad seem cool.
