Jake Gyllenhaal’s 95% RT Thriller Is a Must-Watch Before It Leaves Streaming

A Jake Gyllenhaal crime thriller is running out of time on Netflix, making this the perfect chance to catch up before it disappears. With gripping performances, a dark look at sensationalist journalism and widespread critical acclaim, this is one streaming departure worth paying attention to.

Jake Gyllenhaal-led Nightcrawler will leave Netflix soon

As per What’s on Netflix, Nightcrawler departs Netflix in the United States on Nov. 1, 2026, giving subscribers a short window to catch up. Dan Gilroy wrote and directed the 2014 release, which features Jake Gyllenhaal alongside Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed and Bill Paxton. Bold Films produced the thriller, while Open Road Films handled its U.S. theatrical release.

At the core of the thriller is Gyllenhaal’s deeply unnerving turn as Lou Bloom, a hungry opportunist who discovers that bloodshed can pay the bills in Los Angeles’ cutthroat TV news business. Lou scours the city for disturbing crime footage, and his hunger for success soon sends him down a very dark road. Rene Russo plays Nina Romina, a news director willing to deal with his material, while Riz Ahmed portrays Rick, the assistant pulled into Lou’s immoral operation.

Nightcrawler is no forgotten bargain-bin thriller. The thriller boasts a 95% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.8/10 score on IMDb. Both reviewers and moviegoers have given it plenty of love. Director Dan Gilroy skips the usual action-movie playbook, instead turning the cutthroat race for sensational news into a nerve-rattling look at ambition gone off the rails.

As Lou’s hunger for success spirals, the film keeps fans hooked on a character whose next move becomes harder to stomach. Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance is a major draw for fans, who can’t get enough of his turn as a hustler willing to cross every line to get ahead.

Financially, the film also delivered a solid result. Made on a production budget at $8.5 million, the movie worldwide haul was at approximately $47.4 million (via Box Office Mojo). North American theaters contributed roughly $32.3 million, while international markets added another $15 million.
