Josh Brolin and Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars gets its digital release date
The Dog Stars will release on digital platforms on Tuesday, October 27. Viewers can rent or buy it on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home. SlashFilm adds that the Google Play Store will also carry it. The 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD editions follow on December 1. It debuts at a premium price. The outlet reports that a 48-hour rental will typically cost around $20 at launch, with discounts available later. Disney has not announced a streaming date.
The studio promises the film in 4K Ultra HD with high dynamic range, a wider color range, and immersive audio. Bonus material includes a behind-the-scenes featurette, The Making of The Dog Stars, and seven deleted scenes. Based on Peter Heller’s 2012 novel, the story follows survivors of a deadly flu pandemic in rural Colorado. Elordi plays Hig, a pilot who lives in an airport hangar with his dog. Brolin plays Bangley, an ex-Marine and his only neighbor.
The Dog Stars opened on August 28 and struggled to find a big audience. The digital release now gives the film a second chance, roughly two months after its theatrical debut. Ridley Scott made the film as his follow-up to Gladiator II, which arrived in 2024. The cast also includes Allison Janney and Benedict Wong.
Disney typically announces its streaming plans only a week or two before the date. The site expects the film to reach Hulu in the US, and Disney+ elsewhere, around the time the discs go on sale. That is a prediction, not a confirmed date.
