Prince Harry’s Public Peace Plea Could Backfire With Prince William — Author

Prince Harry‘s public appeal to reconcile with his estranged brother, Prince William, may do little to repair their relationship and could instead widen the rift, according to royal journalist Tom Sykes. The Daily Beast European Editor at Large and author of The Royalist Substack believes William is unlikely to respond publicly to Harry’s latest comments, especially given their unresolved disagreements and years of strained relations.

Prince William will choose to maintain his ‘silence’ on Prince Harry’s peace plea, per author

Prince William is unlikely to reach out to Prince Harry following the Duke of Sussex’s latest public expression of hope for a family reconciliation, according to Tom Sykes. Speaking exclusively to Page Six on Tuesday, the royal journalist suggested that William’s silence would communicate more than any public statement. “Will William respond? I would be astonished if he responded publicly,” Sykes said. “He never does, and his silence is itself the response.”

Sykes also pointed out that the brothers have not spoken since 2022 and suggested that Harry’s recent GQ interview would not change that situation. The author believes William may feel frustrated that his younger brother chose to discuss their relationship publicly.

According to Sykes, Harry’s appeal could put pressure on William to respond, even though the Prince of Wales may not want to address their private differences in the public arena. “Being lectured in public about reconciliation by the person who has caused the problem is exactly what William finds so hard to forgive,” Sykes told Page Six.

Harry discussed his relationship with William in an on-camera interview with GQ magazine. During the conversation, the Duke of Sussex acknowledged that he wanted to reconcile with his older brother despite their long-running estrangement.

“I want it to work out. Of course I do,” Harry said. “With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile. That’s the key point,” he continued.
