Elizabeth Holmes Makes Cryptic Prison Call to Nathan Fielder

Elizabeth Holmes made an unexpected move ahead of Nathan Fielder‘s new film, You Can See Everything. Fielder revealed that Holmes recently contacted him from prison. Their brief conversation left him wondering what she meant by her repeated message.

Nathan Fielder recalls Elizabeth Holmes’ prison call ahead of You Can See Everything release

In an interview with WIRED, Fielder recalled receiving two missed calls from a prison number on a Friday morning. The voicemail transcript identified the caller as Holmes, whom he had not heard from in more than six months. A third call arrived while he was checking his phone, prompting him to answer.

Fielder said Holmes asked how he was doing and whether he had seen reactions to You Can See Everything. The film, co-directed by Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, documents his time with Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, before her incarceration. Fielder said Holmes told him she had heard about the film but had not read much coverage.

Then came the moment that caught Fielder off guard. “And then, at the end, she said to me—‘I trust you,’” he recalled. He said the conversation continued briefly before Holmes repeated the same words.

“I trust you,” Holmes told him again before ending the call. Fielder admitted he did not know what she meant by the statement. He also said the unexpected contact left him thinking about their complicated interactions.

The filmmaker considered a straightforward explanation for her message. He suggested Holmes might trust him to tell her story, or at least the version of it she believed existed. However, he resisted assigning a definite meaning to the call.

Fielder said the conversation made the film’s story feel ongoing. “It’s just the whole thing is hard to unravel,” he explained, describing his tendency to interpret each new detail. He added that he did not want to attach too much meaning to any single moment.

The film explores the final weeks before Holmes’ prison sentence began, capturing her family life and interactions with Fielder. The filmmaker has described the experience as difficult to interpret, with different observers drawing different conclusions.

With You Can See Everything reaching theaters, Holmes’ unexpected prison call has added another unresolved detail. For Fielder, her repeated expression of trust remains an open question rather than a clear explanation.
