Armie Hammer Cast in New Action Movie After Citizen Vigilante Controversy & Backlash

Armie Hammer is back in the spotlight after the divisive launch of his controversial film Citizen Vigilante earlier this year. The actor’s latest project is a high-stakes action thriller that recently completed filming in Los Angeles.

According to Deadline, Hammer stars in Tokyo Blitz, an under-the-radar action thriller that has completed production. Film Mode Entertainment has acquired worldwide sales rights and plans to give buyers a first look at the movie at next month’s American Film Market.

The news follows the controversy surrounding Citizen Vigilante, which drew backlash over its graphic violence and perceived anti-immigrant themes. Germany initially denied the film a home-video classification before giving it an 18+ theatrical rating.

Elon Musk also promoted Citizen Vigilante by sharing the full movie on X for 48 hours. It subsequently climbed digital streaming charts.

What is the plot of the new Armie Hammer action movie?

Tokyo Blitz follows a Yakuza enforcer battling to save his family from a lethal American hitman. Garrett Glassell writes and directs the feature.

The film’s logline, per Deadline, reads, “Follows a ruthless Yakuza enforcer (Joey Chase) who’s trying to save his fractured family when he’s drawn into a deadly war for control of Tokyo’s first legal casino, putting him on a collision course with Rick (Armie Hammer), an elite American hitman who never misses his mark.”

In addition to Hammer and Chase, Tokyo Blitz stars Kooper Seewald, Yuwi, Nobuaki Shimamoto, and John Kim in supporting roles.

Keli Price produces the film through Price Productions, alongside Tommy Anderson of Charthouse Films and Liam S. Terlecki. Film Mode Entertainment’s Clay Epstein, Christopher Manalo, and Mike Levenson serve as executive producers.

Producer Keli Price said the film is “an action-thriller with real heart at its core.” He added that Glassell “has created a distinctive world that feels both visceral and deeply personal.” Price also praised the casting.

Tokyo Blitz has not yet received a premiere date.
