Duguay wrapped up his hockey career in 1989, recording 274 goals and 346 assists in 864 games. He later spent 12 years covering hockey for MSG Network before his departure in 2018.
Now, the former Rangers star’s daughter, Shay Thomas, has shared a black-and-white photo from his hospital room. The photo shows her kissing her father on the forehead as he lies in bed. She wrote, “Thank you to everyone who has reached out and loves our dad so deeply. Your continued prayers, love, and support mean more to our family than you know.” She continued, “As you all know, Dad is a fighter, and he never stops fighting. We’re taking it one day at a time, holding on to our faith, and believing in his healing. Please keep praying for our dad.”
Following her post, friends and fans shared supportive messages and prayers. One of them wrote, “Continuing prayers for your dad and for you. God heal Ron and let that healing be a testimony to those who need to believe.” Another commented, “He made such an impact on me growing up. I idolized him. All these prayers are going to help.”
Duguay, who helped the New York Rangers reach the 1979 Stanley Cup Final, was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in December 2024. He kept his diagnosis private until February 2026, when his family shared the news. They also launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of his care. Since his diagnosis, he has reportedly undergone surgery to remove his appendix and gallbladder.
