Rod Stewart proved he was getting back on his feet after a recent heart procedure, with an impressive swimming milestone to share. The 81-year-old rock legend also had a major tour announcement on the horizon, despite canceling several concerts earlier this year.
Stewart’s recovery followed an August coronary stent procedure after doctors discovered an underlying heart issue. The singer had also experienced a frightening moment onstage in Utah in June, when he nearly fainted and needed oxygen.
Rod Stewart says he recently swam 400 meters following an August coronary stent procedure
During a charity gala performance of Sinatra the Musical at London’s Aldwych Theatre on October 15, Stewart gave The Daily Mail an upbeat health update. Asked how he felt, he replied, “F—ing brilliant! I swam 400 meters [just over 1300 feet] the other day.” The appearance came just weeks after Stewart canceled the remainder of his 2026 tour following his procedure.
Doctors discovered a slight blockage that required a stent, although the singer had previously experienced respiratory infections and performed at a high-altitude venue. His wife, Penny Lancaster, discussed the health scare on the At Home with Vanessa podcast last month. She explained that the couple hadn’t known about the underlying heart issue when he experienced earlier difficulties.
“They detected a slight blockage which needed a stent,” Lancaster said, noting that many people over 65 require the procedure. She added that Stewart’s loved ones and medical team were making sure he followed medical advice.
“Between me and my brother, his trainer, and doctors and everyone, you know, we’re not letting him get away with it … he has to do as he’s told,” she said with a laugh. Meanwhile, Stewart had confirmed plans for his The Final Encore Tour in 2027. In an Instagram announcement on September 28, he called it his “last tour ever, ever, ever,” while clarifying that he wasn’t retiring completely.
“I’m not retiring, but this will be the last rock and roll tour,” he said. The planned dates covered the United States, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and mainland Europe, giving fans another chance to see the veteran performer live. For now, Stewart’s latest update offered an encouraging sign as he prepared for his final major touring chapter.
