Rodrigo recalled they were working on the track’s second verse when Roan offered her advice.
She said, “I was just like I was telling you (Roan) all of like the crazy stuff that boys have done to me and you’re like, ‘Oh my god, like you need to start dating girls. I know. It’s wild. It’s wild out here.”
Roan added, “It’s just like cool to have, like, I don’t know if everyone would be down to have a fully queer verse on air.”
During the interview, the pop stars shared the creative process behind their collaboration.
Roan shared her perspective on how it helped in making a new verse for their song.
Roan said, “I love making things a little gay. It was fun to just be like, they’re all wives.”
While talking about their collaboration, Roan praised Rodrigo’s writing skills and appreciated how the song worked on a related subject. Roan said, “This is obviously [the] first feature I’ve ever done before. It feels like the perfect [fit] for me.” (via Billboard)
Rodrigo originally released “Expectations” on her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. The duo has collaborated on a remix version of the track released on October 15.
