King Charles’ Absence Unnerves London Society — Report

King Charles’ absence from the Royal Ballet School’s 100th-anniversary celebrations reportedly left London society unsettled. The monarch, who serves as the school’s official patron, was expected to attend the milestone event but did not appear. His absence has since sparked questions about whether his schedule of royal engagements could be changing.

Lady Sarah Chatto represented the Crown at the Royal Ballet School centenary, according to report

According to a Page Six report, Charles’ absence from the centenary celebrations surprised members of London society. The festivities took place over two days, beginning with a reception and performance at the Royal Opera House on Thursday, October 8. A black-tie gala dinner followed at Whitehall Palace on Friday, October 9.

Former Prime Minister Sir John Major and several prominent figures from the ballet and art worlds attended. Lady Sarah Chatto represented the Crown at the celebrations. Princess Margaret’s daughter serves as president of both the Royal Ballet School and the Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Page Six also reported that the Charles’ absence raised questions among royal insiders about his upcoming engagements. Charles has attended several public engagements this year, including the Zoological Society of London’s 200th-anniversary celebration on July 9. He also undertook official visits to Washington, D.C., and Bermuda.

The reported changes come amid wider discussions about the distribution of royal duties. Prince William and Kate Middleton have also been linked to plans to take on more responsibilities within the monarchy, according to an insider cited in a separate report. The move could see the couple shoulder more of the royal workload.

William’s role has also drawn attention, with royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams reportedly urging the heir to the throne to take on more royal duties. The comments add to ongoing discussions about how responsibilities are shared among senior members of the royal family.

Page Six attributed its claims about possible schedule changes to unnamed sources. Buckingham Palace has not been cited as confirming that Charles’s engagements are being reduced.
