Emmitt Smith Defends Taylor Swift’s NFL Appearances Amid Fan Debate — Report

NFL legend Emmitt Smith has defended Taylor Swift’s appearances at Kansas City Chiefs games, saying she simply wants to support her husband, Travis Kelce. The former Dallas Cowboys star believes TV networks focus on Swift because of her celebrity status, rather than because she seeks attention.

Emmitt Smith reportedly said Taylor Swift simply wants to ‘support her husband’ during NFL games

Taylor Swift has become a familiar face at Kansas City Chiefs games since she began dating Kelce. The singer regularly attends matches at Arrowhead Stadium to cheer on the NFL star, but her presence has sparked debate among football fans. Swift’s global fame means television cameras frequently capture her reactions during games.

While some viewers enjoy seeing the singer support Kelce, others have criticized broadcasters for repeatedly featuring her during NFL coverage, arguing that the attention takes away from the action on the field.

Smith addressed the debate in an interview with Variety, where he discussed the Taylor Swift effect and its influence on the league. When the publication asked about Swift’s impact on NFL popularity, particularly among women, it also noted that some male fans have expressed mixed feelings about her regular appearances.

Smith questioned why her presence had become controversial. “Why would it be a controversial matter? She’s there to support her husband, and she doesn’t care about all this other stuff, but the networks do,” Smith said.

Smith believes television networks have played a major role in turning Swift’s attendance into a recurring talking point. “She’s not looking for the damn camera! She’s trying to be Taylor Swift, wife to Travis Kelce, and is trying to enjoy life,” he said.

Smith added that celebrities generally do not need to demand attention for cameras to follow them. Their public profiles naturally attract media interest, particularly when they attend high-profile sporting events. “She’s not going, ‘Put me on the camera! I’m here!’ Most stars aren’t even like that,” he explained.
