Selma Blair’s Lawyer Calls Her ‘Gold Standard,’ but Judge Pushes Back

Selma Blair is facing additional legal trouble following an alleged incident aboard a flight from Los Angeles to New York. The actress now faces two new assault charges after prosecutors accused her of kicking a police officer and a nurse after she was removed from the aircraft. During a recent court appearance, her attorney urged the judge to consider her reputation, but the request was rejected.

Judge refuses celebrity special treatment as actress faces two new assault charges

Selma Blair appeared in a New York court after prosecutors filed two additional assault charges linked to the alleged incident. According to the BBC, the new counts stem from events that allegedly occurred after Blair was taken off the Delta flight. Prosecutors claimed the actress kicked a police officer while being transported in an ambulance. They also alleged she assaulted a nurse after arriving at the hospital. Blair has pleaded not guilty to the charges and was later released on bail.

During the hearing, Blair’s lawyer, Shawn Barnes, asked the judge to take the actress’s character into account. He argued that violence was “not who she is” and described Blair as “the gold standard.” Barnes also urged the court to consider her body of work and public image.

However, the judge declined the request. She said Blair should not receive special treatment because of her celebrity status. The court set bail at $20,000 cash or a $60,000 bond. Her next state court hearing is scheduled for Jan. 19.

The actress is also facing a separate federal assault charge connected to the alleged altercation aboard the plane. Authorities said airport officials responded after reports of a physically abusive passenger as the flight landed in New York. Two flight attendants were reportedly injured, with one taken to a hospital for treatment.

Blair’s representatives previously said she experienced a medical emergency that allegedly led to the incident. The Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions star has not publicly commented on the latest charges. Meanwhile, it remains unclear when proceedings in the federal case related to the alleged onboard assault will begin.
