After Spider-Noir Cancellation, Nicolas Cage Could Star in a Massive Detective TV Show

Nicolas Cage has addressed the possibility of joining HBO’s True Detective. The actor discussed his television plans at New York Comic Con, where he also spoke about the possibility of working with Prime Video again. Cage’s Spider-Noir was recently canceled by Prime Video after the first season.

Nicolas Cage says he might star in True Detective

Nicolas Cage may be heading to HBO for the fifth season of True Detective. The actor discussed the possibility during an appearance at New York Comic Con, suggesting that he is considering another television role rather than continuing to take on feature films frequently.

Cage explained that his decision to pursue television partly comes down to managing his workload and supporting his family. “Necessity is the mother of invention,” he said. He then elaborated, “What do I mean by necessity? Feed the family, and don’t do too many movies back to back to back. So I think I’m probably going to do another season of television. I think I might do a season of True Detective. That’s OK that I’m the first to announce that, right?”

Talk of Cage joining the crime anthology first surfaced in 2025, when reports indicated that he was in discussions with HBO about a leading role. He is reportedly being considered for the role of Henry Logan, a New York detective involved in the central investigation. The fifth season is expected to take place in Jamaica Bay, New York, with Issa López returning as writer and showrunner following her work on Season 4. HBO has not confirmed Cage’s involvement, and a representative for the network previously declined to comment.

Cage also addressed the prospect of working with Prime Video again, expressing reservations about Amazon’s approach to artificial intelligence. The actor reportedly described the company as “very AI-friendly.” The comments come amid uncertainty surrounding Cage’s association with Spider-Noir, a Prime Video series.
